Chairman of JFW
09/10 and Femina Group’s Chief Operating Officer, Svida
Alisjahbana said “JFW 09/10 is our attempt to muster Indonesia’s
strength in order to collectively improve the country’s fashion
industry. With that purpose in mind, we are partnering with the
municipality of DKI Jakarta, Ministry of Trade, the Indonesian
Fashion Designers Association (APPMI), the Indonesian Fashion
Designer Council (IPMI), respected sponsors as well as other
media organizations besides Femina Group. We are very much aware
of the breadth of our cultural wealth and inherent creative
potential. These strengths—manifested in our range of
traditional textiles, the energy and dynamism of our local
designers as well as the determination of our entrepeneurs — are
crucial elements that must be harvested in order for us to
achieve this goal. Jakarta’s emergence as a fashion powerhouse
at a regional level will be our collective success.” |

Arie Budhiman as
the Head of DKI Jakarta Tourism and Cultural Board also adds,
“JFW 09/10 is an ongoing effort that blends the potential and
resources of our fashion industry to enhance our competitive
edge. JFW is obviously a very exciting event, much anticipated
by the press as well as local and international fashion

"The
ever-evolving fashion trends are especially reflective of the
undergoing revolution within the fast-moving fashion industry.
Pacific Place is proud its role as host of JFW 09/10
for the second time in a row this upcoming November 2009. The

Kanaya Tabitha,
Head of the Indonesian Fashion Designer Council (IPMI) 2010
Trend Committee also shares the sentiment. “JFW has done a
tremendous job at raising the profile of Indonesian fashion.
IPMI’s involvement in JFW has been a positive experience not
only from the exposure but also due to the creative stimulation
for the fashion community as well as other related fields.”
Alongside the local presentations, JFW 09/10 will also feature a
special collaboration between two of Indonesia’s renowned
designers (Priyo Oktaviano and Sebastian Gunawan) with two of
India’s esteemed designers (Tarun Tahiliani and Malini Ramani).
This exchange is part of a cultural exploration program made
possible with the cooperation and support from the Embassy of
India.
Last year’s success has become the main motivation to make JFW
09/10 an even better event to two Indonesia’s fashion organizations (APPMI and IPMI)
as well as the independent designers who will be highlighting
Indonesia’s 2010 fashion trends through their stellar
collections.
“This event is the core of Indonesian fashion. In line with our
mission to continuously support Indonesian fashion” says Taruna
K. Kusmayadi, Head of the Indonesian Fashion Designers
Association (APPMI). |

On top of that,
Indonesia’s crop of new talents will also be introduced in the
Young Fashion Designer Award segment, also known as Fashion
Designer Competition (LPM). Started since 1978, LPM has
produced several of Indonesia’s top designers such as Carmanita,
Chossy Latu, Edward Hutabarat, Itang Yunasz, Musa Widyatmojo and
Denny Wirawan. Ever since the award was reactivated in 2004, LPM
has also helped the careers of new upcoming designers such as
Stella Rissa, Jeffrey Tan, Eny Ming, Andreas Odang, Zacky
Gaficky, and Billy Tjong. Today, Musa Widyatmojo and Denny
Wirawan will each present 6 looks from their Moslemwear
collection in a mini fashion show. M by Musa incorporates
intricate lace patterns and appliques into its timeless designs.
This year’s program was designed so that it appeals to everyone
from all walks of life. A diverse line-up of runway
collections—from Ready To Wear to Haute Couture—will be
presented in an array of extravagant fashion parades. |
