M-IFW is the Malaysia’s premier fashion event featuring well-known foreign and local designers, and showcasing emerging talent from Malaysia. It is the only consumer and trade fashion event in Malaysia aimed at using fashion as a platform to promote tourism and trade. M-IFW’08 is endorsed by MATRADE.

Into its fifth year, M-IFW has grown from a local event into a regional show that attracts the participation of designers, buyers and media from around Asia. This year will see a line-up of participants from over 23 countries including Australia, China, Russia, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam, among others.

mifa also reveal the face of M-IFW’08, international model and celebrity, Ms. Amber Chia. She says, “We have so much talent here and the industry has much to contribute to the economy and tourism.” Amber will play an ambassadorial role for fashion week, helping to promote Malaysia and the fashion industry locally and abroad.

In line with international fashion weeks, M-IFW’08 will be led by a panel of experts known as the mifa Style Council. This year the council comprises esteemed representatives from various sectors: international designer Dato’ Farah Khan; Group CEO of Media Prima Dato’ Sri Farid Ridzuan; society diarist and mifa Style KL Editor in Chief, Mansor Tun Abdul Aziz; Editor of The Edge, Ms. Surinder Jessy; Editor in Chief of GLAM Magazine, Ms. Wirda Adnan. The mifa Style Council Judging Panel, which will be selecting winners of the Designer of the Year and Model of the Year awards, includes fashion personality Alex Eu; fashionistas Datin Ezurin Ya’acob and YM Che’ Engku Rozeeta and entrepreneur Rita Shum. The Designer of the Year will walk away with RM20,000 cash courtesy of Pelikan Malaysia, and a trade and showcase trip to Russian Fashion Week courtesy of the organiser of mifa while the Model of the Year takes home an exclusive bag courtesy of Anya Hindmarch.
