Malaysian
International Fashion Alliance (mifa) is proud to announce the
fourth annual Malaysia International Fashion Week 2007 (M-IFW
’07) which one of the premiere fashion events in the region.
This much-anticipated homegrown international couture event
will be held at KLCC Convention Centre from 15 - 18 November
2007 and will highlight, amongst other highlights, the
ingeniously revamped mifa8 competition, mifa8- Fashion
Forward.
“With M-IFW ’07 being the sole
fashion week in Malaysia this year, we have the ideal
opportunity to really take our core mission – which is to
promote Malaysian fashion designers to the world and to bring
the world to our homegrown talent – to the next level as we
continue to consolidate Kuala Lumpur’s standing as a major
Asia Pacific fashion capital with a constant flow of
innovative fashion leadership and inspiration.” said
Syeba Yip, CEO of mifa
The fringe event is pleased to have the
endorsement of the Ministry of Tourism, Tourism Malaysia and MATRADE for M-IFW ‘07. With Visit Malaysia Year
2007, M-IFW ’07’s international appeal
will contribute to VMY 2007’s success. MATRADE participation
to endorse as all participating Malaysian designers will able
to have part of their costs sponsored.
According to Ms Yip, M-IFW ’07 will be the best Malaysia
International Fashion Week yet. Key elements of this year’s
event include the M-IFW Collection Showcase, M-IFW Showroom,
the Islamic Fashion Festival and of course, the Malaysian
International Fashion Awards. The theme of M-IFW ‘07 is Love
and this is will interpreted throughout the whole M-IFW ’07
set-up including the runway, the exhibitions and the
Collection shows.
Ms Yip mentioned “Our key differentiator is our
responsiveness to the needs of the buyers, designers and
industry leaders who attend M-IFW. Based on feedback on last
year’s show, we have extended our runway to 42 metres this
year to give designers more scope to exhibit their
collections. There will also be an invitation-only luxury
lounge where the movers and shakers at the event can meet and
mingle in privacy. This luxury lounge will include a pamper
corner and a pavilion showcasing high end luxury goods such as
car and etc.”
mifa has also leveraged on M-IFW ‘07’S status as the only
fashion week in 2007 to further strengthen the connection
between M-IFW ’07 and the mifa8 competition. This is achieved
by turning the final quarter of 2007 into a 2-month-long
fashion extravaganza starting with mifa8 - Fashion Forward
which debuted on 22 September 2007 on Star World and
culminating with M-IFW ’07 during which the eight finalists
compete for final honours while appearing alongside the best
designers from around Asia Pacific.
Meanwhile Star World will broadcast this year’s mifa8 finalists’ preparations in the
run-up to M-IFW ’07 as an 11-episode TV series. It will be showcase that the intersection between the
hard work, raw talent and extracurricular elements such as
being able to market.
The mifa8 finalists will certainly have distinguished role
models in this year’s KL Six: Dato’ Tom Abang Saufi, Eric
Choong, Melinda Looi, Radzwan Radziwill, Rizalman Ibrahim and
Sonny San. These Malaysian fashion luminaries will be honoured
at the KL Six Gala on 17 November 2007. Ms Yip remarked: “The
KL Six are Malaysia’s six most talked-about designers of the
year and we hope that the mifa8 finalists will see them as
living examples for steering their careers and making the most
of their talents.”
Since the dedicated of mifa started in 2003, Malaysian fashion industry
is nurturing from strength to strength. As evident in this year’s M-IFW’07
and mifa8 - Fashion Forward programme as well as the
year-on-year increase of the reputation and international
awareness of Malaysia International Fashion Week. mifa believe that this is
an ongoing process and mifa is committed to continuously
pushing new boundaries moving forward.
M-IFW is organized by Malaysian International Fashion Alliance (mifa), supported by
