Khoon Hooi was back in Singapore for The Designer's Show held at the Singapore Expo. Khoon Hooi thought to himself, why look anywhere else fbr ideas? The emphasis of this collection was The Zipper - fashioned as an accessory. Themed as BEGUILINGLY BOLD & BEAUTIFUL, Khoon Hooi wanted to step away from his signature feminine styling and created a bolder approach to this Spring/Summer 2007 collection. Ditching the surreal, fifties-flavoured illusionism in his last collection, this was a personal departure with the emphasis on the zipper coupled with the realism of function was the order of the day, served with a smattering of couture-like touches and glass-beading detailing.



Team with a cotton silk frilledd blouse or tunic, cuffed shorts or culottes goes beyond weekend wear. Oversize looks or volume looks, as Khoon Hooi likes to put it, everything from palazzos, dresses, tunics, shifts and skirts complimented the collection. Overt sexiness is over and layering this season is in where Khoon Hooi brilliantly layered his creations using silk chiffon and satin silk. Tulip-shaped dress was rendered in bright purple, black or black over nude using only rich organza and satin silk for the after dark appeal.



Clever craftsman pleating by hand showed in his halter dresses and asymmetrical lines gave a fresh tailored form of layered silk chiffon or crunched bamboo silk, made reality look like a pleasurable proposition. Khoon Hooi choose to work with white, pastels, earth, purple, peach, black and the popular nude to elevate the layering, pleats, tie-backs and draping.

"My volume bat-sleeved top gathered at the waist was layered in double would become a Khoon Hooi classic, so it's a must-have item for this season," said Khoon Hooi just before he stepped onto the stage to receive his applause from an enthusiastic audience.

Khoon Hooi's collection is also available in Kuwait, Singapore, Australia and United States of America. Prospective enquiries from France, Dubai, Taiwan and Hong Kong have been encouraging this past year and are in the midst of negotiations. "I am happy with the encouraging enquiries for my collection this year and am looking forward with this expansion soon," Khoon Hooi expressed his enthusiasm when asked about his future expansion.
